A department of the Henry Madden Library at California State University, Fresno, the Center is one of North America's leading resources for the study of children's and young adult literature. The growing collection of over 50,000 books, periodicals, manuscripts, works of original art, papers of authors and illustrators, and digital archives has an international and multicultural emphasis.
The Arne Nixon Center supports the teaching, research, and public service missions of the university by acquiring, preserving, and making accessible works of historical and artistic significance in the field of children's and young adult literature. The Center's mission expands the lifelong accomplishments of its founder, Arne Nixon, preserving primary, modern (1865-present), multicultural literature for young people and making it accessible to scholars from a variety of disciplines, including library science, art, education, English, storytelling, history, sociology, women's studies, multicultural studies, popular culture, and American studies.
